Kerala is an India state located in Southern-most or Southwest of India. Previously known as Keralam, the state was formed in 1956 under “States Reorganization act”. The main purpose of the act was to unite Malayalam speaking regions. Neighboring states of Kerala include Tamilnadu towards the East and South and Karnataka towards the North and Northeast. Kerala is 14th largest state of India in terms of population and has 33,387,677 inhabitants according to 2011 census. In terms of area, the state covers an area of 38,863 km2 and is divided into 14 districts. The state is described as one of the most developed states of India. Kerala has highest Human Development Index (HDI), highest literacy rate and highest life expectancy. Similar to Goa, Kerala is one of the featured tourist destinations of India featuring extensive coastline, lush greeneries, unique culture and traditions and number of other recreational locations.
History of modern Kerala dates back to the stone age. Archeological evidence and ancient painting found at caves show that the history dates back to not less than 5000 BC. There is also an indication of different ancient civilizations in the area. As the area is famous for its spices, the local people had active contact with people of other regions. The famous empires active in the area were Maurya Empire, Chola Empire, and Rashtrakuta Empire. Due to spice trade throughout the history number of European traders also visited the area carving a pathway for permanent invasion. The first Europeans to maintain a permanent colony in the area were Portuguese. They set-up permanent establishments and created number of forts. Later on, French East India company also maintained their hold for some time. Soon the British also learned of the area and were present actively in the region. “Tipu Sultan” ruler of Mysore gave active resistance to the British which led to Anglo-Mysore Wars, but due to traitors within, Tipu Sultan was soon defeated and British gained total control of the area. In 1947 when the British left Kerala was merged into the newly created Indian Union.
Kerala has a god gifted land. It is also called heaven on the earth or Gods Own place. It features lakes, rivers plains, heart touching landscapes, forests, beautiful shorelines, waterfalls and abundant coconut trees. The state has also rich soil and tropical climate. This is the reason number of crops and fruits are grown in the area. The main features of the state are divided into following: The Western Ghats, Hills, and Valleys, Midland Plains, Coastal Belt, and Rivers.
Kerala’s economic sector depends on multiple sectors. The most dominating sector is services sector that accounts for 62% in GDP. Approximately 30,00,000 Keralites work abroad mainly in Gulf countries. The currency they sent back home helps tremendously in prospering the state’s economy. Agricultural sector comes on the second. As the state has a moderate climate and rich soil, a number of crops are grown in the state every year. Most common products include rice, cashew, coffee, tea, and spices. Spices are produced in the area for thousands of years. They are of superior quality and famous worldwide. Most common spices are cardamom, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Due to the extensive coastline, lakes, and rivers, Kerala is also one of the leading fish providing states. A number of locals of the state depend on fishing for the living. Also, as mentioned earlier Kerala is no doubt tourist heaven and attracts a number of local and foreign tourist annually which surely helps the economy to prosper.
Majority of the state’s inhabitants are Hindu accounting for 54.73% of the total population. Islam accounts for 26.56%, while Christianity 18.38%. Malayalam is the official and dominating religion of the state accounting for 96.74% of the total population.
Similar to the other states of India, Kerala has its own unique culture. The culture is hybrid of Aryan and Dravidian cultures. The culture is also influenced time to time due to colonization and immigration from other parts of India.

We are tech professionals and working in USA. After a year long search we brought the house. After buying the house I started looking for consultant who can help me evaluating the house. I came across Subhavaastu website which has lot of information. I contacted Mr.Suresh and requested him to help with our house vastu. It has been a great pleasure working with him. He is very detailed oriented person and never compromises with his work. I am typically not interested to deliver the reviews. But after working with Mr. Suresh I decided to share my experience. Mr. Suresh has great expertise in providing vastu consultation to USA property. He is always available through email and phone l to answer questions. Hello Sir, My name is Bharathi. Me and my husband have been reading your articles closely. We really appreciate the effort put by you to share your knowledge about vastu and it’s effects - Bharathi - USA.
I have consulted Suresh Garu during December 2014 during the process of buying a house in Texas, USA. I have occupied the house for one year now, and feel like dropping a review regarding my experience during the entire process. I am very much satisfied with the kind of service I received from him. He is very knowledgeable and I was often stunned by his detailed analysis during the course of my interaction with him. He was very much accessible over phone (perhaps more than 10 times for one house plan!) and the price is very much reasonable especially compared with the cost of the house. I noticed his burning desire to help me in making informed decisions on certain things. I have seen some people pretending to know this subject and misguiding those who come for help by saying only what we want to hear. SubhaVaastu is definitely not that one. Finally, I am strong believer of leaving certain things to experts in those subjects. I have been in US for more than 13 years and have seen people doing their own corrections (by reading website articles) trying to save few dollars. Please don’t do that. You would end up in causing more damage. I highly recommend you to engage SubhaVaastu in your next project - Satish - Dallas - TX - USA
