There is importance of Back yard in vastu shastra. When taking with East facing house, backyard is having more space then residents suffer with ill health, paralysis, unwanted headaches, bad name, enmity, defeats, restless feelings, insecure feeling, lost of confidence, raising of enemies, close relation may also become enemies etc may happen.
In a human body every organ is most important, each and every part plays a vital role and overall it supports for our regular process of human mechanical life.
On the same way each and every part in the house (House vastu) plays it's own role in vastu shastra and providing results to the residents whether they are good or bad.
If one South face house is having less space at back yard, then the residents may face all troubles belongs to health and financial matters, mental tortures etc may happen. If so please consult one experienced vastu specialist and get appropriate vastu suggestions.
If one North facing home is having less backyard, then residents enjoy with money, good health, confidence. Be cautious at Northwest, there should not be any focus to the main property.

In this picture the East direction side open space is more than the West direction, generally, this setting of more open space towards East Direction brings excellent results in view of vastu shastra.
Backyard on West direction:
This is West facing house, in this image and house is constructed at East direction in the compound premises, due to this house East side construction the West is totally vacant, by mistake the property is constructed at East direction, this may not be the right procedure. Several properties in foreign countries are constructed as line houses, the houses are constructed sequence, and all are shown in one line, they never check the directions like, east, west, south or north, they do not have Vastu Shastra knowledge, they are looking only facilitation.
Please note that in foreign countries residents likes more back yard. One property is towards North direction, then they provide more open space towards South direction, so South will have more space than the North direction.
This system is wrong as per Indian Vastu Shastra. Their thought is different.
They require privacy, facilitation, more air, light, etc. But generally, Indians looks and first keeping eyes only on Vastu Shastra principles.
That is why NRI's in several countries are looking more space towards East and North.

More open space towards North direction :
This property is South facing property, (this is only for your understanding purpose), North is back yard for this property, now North is more open space than West direction. So this is good property, we may buy it.
Keep your eyes on Basement, more open space towards south direction, heavy structures or water pillared tanks, apartments, etc towards North direction. In case of Skewed plots, it is must to have an opinion from Experts in Vastu shastra field. Anyway, without Vastu Expert advice don't buy any property.
More open space towards South direction :
This property is North facing property, (just feel that there is a gate towards North Direction, this is only for your understanding purpose), South is back yard for this property, now South is more open space than North direction. So this is not a good property, don't buy this property.

Shall we buy this property or shall we search for other properties? In India generally, vastu pandits says that don't buy this property. But whereas in foreign countries what we have to do. That is why Vasthu has to be described and said to be by seeing some other situations. Our elders clearly told us that "Desa Kaalamana paristhithi Drushtya"

7. Is this property is having water sump at north, east or northeast directions
8. What about the inside structure and its vastu compliance.
9. Must see about whether swimming pool is there or not, if this property is not in India and the residents are organizing to construct a swimming pool, then this point is crucial for vastu consultant to decide.
10. Other surroundings observation helps to finalize decision.
